@amberhorsburgh_: Christina Aguilera wasn’t debated as an artist during Stripped, she was judged as a woman. And the internet is still doing that now, just through different channels. — P.S. This is an unofficial history researched from all the interviews, performances, and everything Christina has ever said about it on the record. If you have a connection to Christina or her team, I’d love to collaborate on the official version 🧡💻 Credits: Stripped (Album) — Christina Aguilera Dirrty (Official Video) — Christina Aguilera Christina Aguilera (Album) Christina Aguilera Talks About Collaboration with Redman (2002) Historic Films Stock Footage Archive Revival (Album) — Selena Gomez Tell Me You Love Me (Album) — Demi Lovato Man's Best Friend (Album) — Sabrina Carpenter Sabrina Carpenter responds to comments over controversial album cover — CBS Mornings

Ági :
interesting how the same happened with WAP, male rappers criticized it while they themselves were sexualizing women in their songs too...

I’ve really enjoyed this series, thank you! If I could suggest something…I would love a look at Janet Jackson’s janet. album, which feels like a similar statement album as Stripped. Alternatively, I’d love a deep dive into the Green Day album American Idiot…both as a political protest album but also a rock opera intended to be listened to from start to finish with characters crossing over multiple songs.

The mockery I think is part of the transformation. They tore away her bubble gum pop reputation out-loud and her job was to let it happen keep her own narrative and keep on going. This isn't the only way to allow transformation in our community—but Patriarchal religious societies can only understand transformation through death. They have to put her on a cross because it'd the only way they know how to touch someone divine.

Sabrina releasing man’s best friend was an instant flashback to stripped. I think that’s part of why her and Christina ended up performing together. It was incredible, even though I actually don’t like Sabrina’s music. I loved seeing them together. I’d love a deep dive on Britney’s self titled album.

I’ve always felt that R culture and purity culture is really the problem here.

Cuz when she was sexualized when she came out it was never on her terms… they don’t like when she took her sexuality in her own hands out of their control.

When I was 12 at Walmart, I had a choice of 1 album. It was between Justified by Justin Timberlake and Stripped by Christina Aguilera. I chose Stripped 😁

I’m loving this series, looking forward to your next one. One of my favourite albums as a teen. I’d love a series on women in rock, like Courtney Love, Meg White, Brody Dalle etc.

In reality, this whole thing started in 2001 with the release of “Lady Marmalade”, where the media, especially the women, started to criticise Christina for what she was wearing in the music video, which is crazy as she was actually the most dressed of the four singers 👀

She took control and not only owned her sexuality but enjoyed herself. Thats still to this day makes people uncomfortable. She was ahead of the times and we all stil love her!.

I would really like a deep dive into 90s and 00s music and men telling us what assholes they are and us lapping it up. Eg. Usher ‘you make me want to leave the one I’m with’ that was literally seen as one of the most romantic songs at the time. And girls signing about assholes, eg. Brandy and Monica ‘the boy is mine’. But I would like to see the bright side too, as to be honest I think the a lot of us woke up listening to songs like TLC ‘no scrubs’ and Destiny’s Child ‘say my name’. For a lot of young women, we shaped our romantic expectations around the lyrics we listened to on repeat in high school.
