Here are 4 tips for visiting the Carrara marble quarries: 1. Book a 4x4 quarry tour. You can't drive up into the active quarries yourself, and the guided jeeps are the only way into the white basins. 2. Choose a tour that goes into the underground galleries at Fantiscritti, where they cut the marble straight out of the mountain. 3. Wear sunglasses and go on a clear day. The white marble in full sun is genuinely dazzling. 4. It's an easy add-on to Pisa, Lucca, or the Cinque Terre, all roughly an hour away.
