My daughter Aurora was born with fibular hemimelia, a rare condition where part or all of the fibula bone is missing. It affects about 1 in 40,000 babies each year. Most moms find out during a routine ultrasound… but for me, it wasn’t that simple. My scans were always unclear, no matter what I tried. It wasn’t until the very end, when I was sent to high-risk, that I finally got answers. I gave birth just hoping for a healthy baby… but I couldn’t stop thinking about her leg. I asked to see it right away. In that moment, I didn’t know what our future would look like, only that I had to be strong for her. With fibular hemimelia, families are often faced with a life-changing decision: limb lengthening or amputation. There’s no “easy” choice only what’s best for your child. We chose amputation, and it was the hardest and most powerful decision we’ve ever made. Today, Aurora is 3 years old… and she is unstoppable. She walks, runs, jumps, rides scooters, and climbs like nothing can hold her back. This condition may be rare, but it happens more than people realize. And the truth is, we may never fully know why. That’s why we chose to donate her foot to medical research, hoping it helps future families get answers. To every mom walking this path: you won’t regret your child. If anything, you’ll realize you were chosen for them. I truly believe God trusted me with Aurora because He knew I would fight for her. And I’d choose her, exactly as she is every single time. 🤍 #fibularhemimelia #amputeestrong #specialneedsmom #miraclebaby #fibularhemimeliaawareness
