My fellow Namibians, the mere fact that we have allowed the Odendaal Plan to still continue existing in an Independent Namibia after 34 years of Independence is worrisome. For those who don’t know what the Odendaal Plan is, in the year 1963 the South African government published the Report of the Commission of Enquiry into South West African Affairs, commonly known as the Odendaal Report, after its chairman, Fox Odendaal, former administrator of the Transvaal Province. At the time Namibia was still being administered by the Apartheid South African regime. Communities were thus divided into ethnic groups, which resulted in the creation of homelands. We should have renamed our Localities to inclusive of all Namibians, instead we still have locations such as Damara Location, Nama Location, Herero Location, Wambo Location and so forth. True Liberation is when we Emancipate ourselves from Mental Slavery, we should propose new names to the City of Windhoek to rename this locations, the same way they have renamed some Colonial street names. A jury in Anchorage, Alaska, on Thursday (June 25) convicted a 23-year-old U.S. Army soldier of second-degree murder for the shooting death of his wife three years ago. The charge was a lesser included offense to the first-degree murder charge prosecutors pursued against Zarrius Hildabrand for killing his wife, Saria Barney Hildabrand, in their Anchorage apartment early on Aug. 6, 2023. He also was convicted of two counts of evidence tampering. Hildabrand, who was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, testified that he blacked out drunk and found his wife dead in their bed with a gunshot wound to her head the next day. He had been seeing another woman, and he said his wife confronted him about the affair. His lawyers argued her gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Prosecutors pointed to his efforts to conceal his wife's death, which included reporting her missing 30 hours after he killed her, cleaning the apartment after purchasing cleaning supplies and a trash bin, hiding her body in a storm drain and helping search for her. Hildabrand faced a mandatory term of 99 years in prison if convicted of first-degree murder. His second-degree murder conviction carries a potential sentence of anywhere between 10 years and 99 years, according to Alaska state law. Judge Catherine M. Easter in Alaska's Third District Superior Court scheduled sentencing for Oct. 10. Hildabrand will remain in jail, where he's been since his arrest in August 2023. #law #court #crime
