@danielanastasio2: Over a century later, Rachmaninoff saw something new in this iconic melody. The 18th variation from Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, or the “Rach Pag Rhap” as I’ve heard it called— listen to the full version with orchestra for some pure cinema! #piano #classicalmusic #rachmaninoff #paganini #variations

Beautiful. Never realized that that variation was the inversion of the theme

So Rachmaninoff was making remixes of Paganini before remixes were a thing? 🤯

Fun fact: when composing that set of variations Rachmaninoff literally said 'this one is for my agent' because he knew if would be the crowd pleaser despite there being far more musically interesting and technically difficult variations in the piece (such as the creme de menthe variation)

The 18th variation is so beautiful that I, a piano teacher, chose this to walk down the aisle at my wedding 🥰

I love the way Rach builds up his variations, takes a calm breath, expresses the "upsidedown theme", DESTROYS us emotionally, then in the next breath continues with the variations like he didn't just gut us to the core. sneaky bastard! I love him and all of his vulnerability.

The Rach variation is great, but your articulation in the beginning with the original Paganini theme is SO CLEAN!

Lizst's famous La Campanella is also an adaptation of the final movement of Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor. Paganini was a great composer that he inspired many other great composers.

Have you ever thought of doing a live show with this same format? Talking about the music as you played?
