id been taking on our managers smaller responsibilities by choice, made me feel good to know I was helping the business run smoother. he left, coworker whod been there almost a decade was promoted. we did yearly raises at that company, he told me to not expect any raises for the next 2-3 years because my effort needed to match what I was being paid and his expectations were far greater than what I was capable of. I simply wasnt doing enough to warrant the pay I was receiving in his eyes. I wasnt the asset he needed me to be. i put in my 2 weeks as soon as his management training was over. everyone followed within 3 months. turns out, even though I never saw half the people at the job, I was still their only support in the company, because I took care of everything thst wasnt on paper. he actually wound up redoing management training a week after I left because the dm found out HR was just signing him off while they gossiped in the office. as far as i know, hes redone management training twice now.

worked at a production based distribution center. everyone would race or fuck around on equipment, but i got fired for driving equipment in an 'unsafe' manner, as well as our 3 top preformers. from what i heard. work hours went from 6-8 a day, too 12-14 hour days and 5 more quit the following week from the extra workload.

the volunteer fire department I started my fire career at the board of directors didn't like that the chief was changing the department in a positive note asked for his resignation end result was 18 out of 19 firefighters walked the one who stayed only stayed because he didn't want to leave the district without anybody which we respected. we had a lot more respect for the chief that they asked to resign then the board members especially due to the fact that they wouldn't let us spend any money that we earned for stuff for the Department

they demoted me not realizing my entire team I hired were only there because they liked working for me. it was a sales position so after half of them quit it ended up being a pay raise for me since there was no competition

Technically for the story, half the people who quit were volunteer workers and the other half were actual paid workers for this nonprofit; but we got a new co-chair at this homeless shelter volunteered for and they decided that there would be mandatory drug tests for all of our clients (which was a wild decision, considering we literally had an intake/holding area for people who were trying to sober up), volunteers were no longer allowed to take breaks because “we weren’t paid employees”, and they tried to argue that there should be absolutely zero benefits, including basic healthcare coverage, for any of the paid employees since it was a nonprofit organization. That guy lasted four months I think; if I’m not mistaken, he even managed to piss off almost all of the major donors at the organization’s annual fundraising event

big boss came in on a day we were short staffed (7 people working in a deli that needs 15 to 20) and screamed at everyone for wait times and things not being done on time infront of customers, we closed everything and our regulars ripped her one as we walked out

My husbands work: a guy who used to work at his work died suddenly in a car crash. His best friend (who had known him since kindergarten) asked for the morning off to attend the funeral. (No one else asked because they were strict it had to be an immediate family member to get time off.) The best friend was denied the time. The entire work place except the manager went to the funeral instead. Only one guy went back in the afternoon to discuss terms of them all coming back on Monday or not.

With drug tests in Scotland. (Might have just been where I worked at the time) but someone refused a drug test, and they suspended him with pay. As they have to be seen helping you.

I worked at a company where they decided to give everybody a drug test because the insurance company said you don't drug test anybody. One entire department of 20 people all failed. It was all for weed. The company panicked because there was nobody to replace that section overnight. They made a deal they put them all on 90 day probation. Today, company don't even test for marijuana since where I live it's practically ninety percent legal.
