@jaebabylacy: Natural hair is not the issue. We've seen natural hair at formal events PLENTY OF times. The conversation people are having is about presentation, not texture. Every community has standards for what they consider polished or event-ready. Saying someone could have moisturized, shaped, or styled their hair differently for a wedding isn't automatically anti-Black. Not every critique of a hairstyle is a critique of Blackness. I’m white so I don’t have the most experience with black hair but my husbands black with a very similar hair texture and her hair looked like his locs after over a month of growth it looked like she had those braids in for a long time and just added some clips to try and dress it up
