@bcrfcure: Nearly one year after her breast cancer diagnosis, @Katie Thurston reflects on thrivership, community, and the importance of funding research. At this year's Hot Pink Party (just two weeks after having a double mastectomy), Katie shared why supporting metastatic breast cancer research is so important to her—and how organizations like BCRF help bring hope to patients and families facing this disease. #bcrf #breastcancer #metastaticbreastcancer #katiethurston

This is why the age needs to be lowered from 40 for annual mammograms and ultrasounds!!! There is a rise in breast cancer in younger women and insurance companies need to cover annual checks!!!! Speaking from experience- currently 30 years old battling stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma- no family history - all genetic testing came back negative. It can happen to ANYONE.

I have metastatic breast cancer. I went from stage one to metastatic in 13 months. I had regular mammograms. I did regular self exams because what they don’t tell you and they don’t test for is that it could come back into another part of your body. I remember I got my mammogram at my year anniversary of beating stage one and thought this is great. I love it until I realized it was somewhere else and did not come back into my breast. We need to have better follow up for women after they’ve been treated for breast cancer.
