“Right message, wrong messenger” is supposed to mean something true was said for the wrong reasons or with the wrong intent, not that it was said by someone who makes you angry.

‘Right message wrong messenger’ is appropriate when you have reason to believe the person spreading the ‘right message’ is don’t so for ulterior reasons that you disagree with, based on how you have seen them act before (e.g if Nick Fuentes says there is a genocide in Gaza). It is not appropriate to use when someone who you’ve never engaged with before makes a statement you agree with FOR the same reasons you would agree with the statement, but you just feel like they shouldn’t spread that message for whatever reason.

the phrase "wrong messenger" also feels so weird here because it feels as if it's saying only cis women are allowed to critique exclusionary feminists. who exactly is the "right messenger" to point out transphobia in feminist circles and what privileges do they hold or lack? do we care more about the person making the point than the point being made?

I think there is a level on top of the transphobic turf angle that the patriarchy is exactly what has lead to so many of the problems men have today. They feel wronged if they can’t be the sole breadwinner, they think they are inadequate if they show their emotions, etc. Yes, feminism is a movement for women but everyone benefits from the dismantling of patriarchy and gender roles

But also people are doing with issues other than feminism, there are a lot non immigrant white people, calling out pick me immigrants and poc, weaponising their identity, when it comes to defending ice, there are non black people who call out Candice owens in her weaponisation of race, or pick me conservative women, saying they don’t deserve the right to vote, can it be distasteful sometimes, yes , but that’s not always inherently because of they’re identity makes them wrong messenger, for any critique, it’s because the they’re over stepping in community that isn’t theirs.
