I agree completely, I was diagnosed as level 1 and I feel like the assessors didn’t really understand how much I struggle every day because of how much i’ve masked my whole life

Isn't it all highly variable as well. For myself I am predominantly what you would call level 1 but when in burnout or heavily dysregulated I can easily be level 2.

itsnot meaning as how much in the amount, its about how much on perticular area that is more known at certain levels. for example level 1 and level 3 would need completly different approach and just in general the way to deal and help them with living comfortably and being more happy. lets say level 1 to level 2 is actually quite a big jump, they both need support but lets say you may not need a speech therapy and u may just need a support to help to understand social queues while u are having conversation, so u understand how to respond and verabally communicate well enough so you can feel comfortable enough when u talk to people. its not perfect but its about the copying mechanisms that helps us to realize what can we change to function better in the world thats not meant for our ways of living.
also the levels can actually change over time, they can worsen or get possibly better in some areas with the right therapies and support that you actually need. so you may not need a lot in speech for example but u may need a lot on social behaviour, so it depends on how serious it is thats where the level stands.. its like if you have a headache and u take a panadol and have water (very bias way of explaining how to "fix" a headache) but if you have a migrane then there is possibly more of an underlying condition and simple water and painkillers wont help ya, so you take more serious approach even tho it may not be much or it might be a lot, but yeah thats basically how i would describe it. its more on the seriousness of level and if there is a lot of masking, the therapist would usually pick up on your stress levels and possibly sleep patern etc and how u are in life, which can possibly end up being, you opening up because u dont realize that some things u are masking and u dont rly need to. thats where the person will guide you and help you realize that some sel copying things do more harm than good :) and they can be good but not all the time or to a certain extent..
well i yapped a lot.. uhh have a good day lads xD

Yeah ngl I absolutely think I’m more 2 than 1 but I’ve no choice but to push through constantly slipping into burn out and treading water with a million things I can’t do that need done, no social life or desire for one, meet few of my own needs cause everything I have goes into trying to be a parent and trying to function in society with zero support. New illnesses are constantly being added to the collection and I just wish I could be who ever I actually am for one single day 😭. Also adhd so that hides a lot of my symptoms and with ptsd I’ve learnt to just pretend

It’s so confusing too because I was diagnosed level 2 by a clinical psychologist at almost 17 years old, but my current psychologist thinks I’m level 1. I see myself as in the middle tbh.

I literally masked my entire assessment because I didn’t know how to unmask (still don’t) and got level 1. Obviously the levels are variable but I hate that i am labelled level 1 when I really don’t think it reflects me in a majority of aspects of my life 😔

they wanted to put 3 because of the extent of needs i need, but I can talk and dont have a "intellectual disbaility" so I got lvl 2.

I was diagnosed as level 2, because I was masking so heavily (obviously not as well as I thought I was 😅😂). But after a few years working with a psych and an OT, they both believe I’d be more likely level 3. I think support levels would be better evaluated by a group of therapists (psych, speech, OT etc) over time, but that’s almost impossible for people to access.

plus you cant know what support we need either unless you observe and ask, levels dont tell you what to support us with!!

I am bad at masking and after never been labelled as such throughout my entire childhood (my diagnosis has always been autism since 4 years old) at 17 camhs randomly decided I had Asperger's lmao. I was developmentally delayed as a child and still have fairly frequent verbal shutdowns.

It makes complete sense as a budget tracking system for insurance companies. That's what it's for. It was never for us. It is only for apportioning support by systems that need to track costs.

You’re spot on! I was dx with level one and I asked my doctor why exactly and he said and I quote; bc you are able to talk and answer these questions in good coherence yourself, level 2 people can’t do that. So I was like oh okay. He did not even know it was supposed to be based on support needs (me neither back then). I am on full disabillity, and have help 3 times a week regarding everything around the house, finances etc. My children do yard work, groceries etc. Church members make sure to pick me up. so all I do myself is my personal hygiëne basically so based of that I think it should have been a level 2 dx. Rn it doesn’t make much diffrence for me but maybe if you have to apply for a certain care home you’d need the proper dx idk

I feel that I’ve got worse since getting my late diagnosis at the age of 46🤦♀️I’m also menopausal and I’m currently struggling with burnout and I’m unable to care for myself at this time. It’s so unsettling and I’ve never felt so vulnerable. 😔🤦♀️
