Hot take - it’s always been thus, only now we’re asking doctors to actually do something about it

Adult acne after 25 is so frustrating 😭 I remember thinking breakouts were supposed to stay in my teens, then suddenly I was dealing with worse skin than ever. I tried countless products and routines but still felt bloated, exhausted and uncomfortable in my own skin. Then a woman in a wellbeing group mentioned Eat Like a Woman Protocol by Loren Green. I ended up losing 30 lbs, my skin became so much clearer and I finally felt confident again. Worth it. Feels like information more women should know.

As someone who's dealt with severe cystic acne as a teen and still suffer with acne as an adult, diet is very important it definitely helps to have a anti inflammatory diet. lots of garlic, ginger, healthy fatty foods such as fish and avocado. Also vitamin A and vitamin b5 reduces acne loads, peppermint and nettle tea also helps.

You don’t need to be cleansing twice a day with an acne suitable cleanser - that’s extremely likely to break you out even more as you’re over exfoliating sensitive skin

Diet, gut health, environment, hormones.. so many things can trigger and cause acne. Prescriptions can mask the root cause so best to discover your trigger and implement a good skincare routine too

I’ve had this since I was 12 and I’m 33 now. What do you mean 'adult acne'? It’s just my lifelong roommate at this point😅

Adult acne isn’t talked about enough. I’ve experienced it through PCOS, pregnancy and stress. It’s the worst.

Love Dr Zoe - but would’ve liked a derm or skin specialist to be taking this segment. Advise on SPF isn’t v accurate. Gel doesn’t = acne safe. Instead the things you should be looking for are potentially, mineral not chemical (Altho lots of good acne safe chemical spfs) and ingredients like Hyaluronic acid, niacinamide etc to also support the skin.

It’s stress and hormone related. Unfortunately like a lot of things you have to work to the root cause. Or take strong topical/ internal medication. And there should be more emphasis on this rather than just cleanser and moisturer as this is a real struggle for people who need better answers

I'm 28 and have had acne since I was about 12. I've only ever had one GP who actually cared and that was when I had the best skin. Unfortunately she was based at my uni and as soon as I moved back home, my GP there decidee to change up my treatment and it all came back again, and has never really gone away since. I even had one GP once ask me "does it really bother you that much?" (and I really do have full on acne, not just a few spots)

When are we going to start addressing the internal drivers of acne and stop ignoring them? Acne medication is prescribed far too easily without looking at an holistic approach. More and more of us skin specialist are providing blood work analysis for acne and it is without a doubt the way to go!

My acne started when I came off the contraception pill from all the changes to my hormones, I was put on doxycycline for 5 months and it cleared up really well. I’ve only got a week left and worried it will come straight back
