What if we mandate the data center has zero carbon footprint and zero noise pollution?

So what you’re saying is they could zone a couple different small pockets of land (enough to build say a convenience store and parking lot or a small bottling operator/plant) that would satisfy the no exclusionary zoning requirement but still be small enough that a data center is not financially viable? No way they could be required to condense their industrial zones to make room for data centers…

All videos play fine. Then this one glitches every few seconds. 🤔 So zone one acre, then one acre, then one acre, then one acre all miles apart. Zoning done ✅. No zoning big enough anywhere for data center but technically allowed zoning.

i appreciate you being so clear to others about the subject. I'm personally not against data centers when they are responsibly built, but that requires approaching these subjects with a clear head and understanding what the truths are, instead of getting angry that all data centers are bad. nuance is important.

Excess water can erode soil beneath any foundation and fire is very bad for electrical and machine systems.

All these small towns and counties need to update their zoning to exclude industrial/commercial projects that don't produce a product.

If I were writing zoning laws for industrial zones , I’d include a clause that current decibel levels at the proposed data site must be collected for one year. The data center may not exceed historical decibel levels. Would also use average water usage records of other industries to define water usage limits of proposed data center.

Is it legal to pass a local ordinance that explicitly bans data centers from being built unless they have zero negative impact on city electricity bills, and water usage?

Sand Springs ok- Our charter said that industrial development wasn’t to go next to agriculture…when that was pointed out the city council meeting the Mayor said “the charter is a developing documents and can be changed.”

could towns instead say the data center is not part of the industrial category? the impacts of a data center are proving to be very different than most industries.

The municipality could, with our saying it out loud 👀, drag their feet through the whole process as much as possible. Still stick to the timelines, but a 3-6 month site plan review process will take the full 6 months. The permits will take a while to process, the inspections also are gonna take a while to schedule. Etc. Data centers are only valuable if they're operating. And how quickly they can get up and running makes all the difference. If a project takes too long, well maybe they decide to cut their losses. 🤷
