they pulled the same thing on me a few years ago. Now I use their site to research hotels then book direct with the hotel. It's normally cheaper because they're not paying Expedia cut.

How did this come about may I ask? I've booked through Hotels.com before and you usually get a confirmation of what you've booked. Are you saying the hotel would not honour the price?
