A three-hour operation took place to rescue a Bernese Mountain Dog from what is believed to be an old well in Co Offaly. Three-year-old Bru was out for a walk with his owner in Oxmantown Mall in Birr, when he wandered off and fell into the 10-12 metre deep hole. The operation took around 25 people from both the Offaly Fire and Rescue Service and the Laois Fire and Rescue Service. It is believed the large hole was covered over with grass when Bru fell to the bottom of it. After realising the dog was missing, the owner contacted emergency services for support in rescuing Bru. Denis Canty, Assistant Chief of Offaly Fire and Rescue Service said “everyone was delighted to get the dog out in one piece, it took time and nobody got hurt, that’s the main thing”. After being lifted to safety, Mr Canty said Bru went straight to his owners, who he described as being “delighted” at getting their dog back. After the rescue operation, Bru was taken to the vet and “all is OK.” #ireland #offaly #bernesemountaindog
