The exhaustion that comes from managing and training up is excruciating. AI is not helping either. It is double the work having to review and fix the slop documents that are being trickled down from those same leaders.

I was once a high performer. Now, I only perform to my pay scale. When leadership doesn’t hold the low performers accountable, there’s no need for me to pull the weight for the rest of the team. Those days are long gone

High performers are leaving every aspect of US society. This is happening all over - it’s a societal problem - this is happening in kids sports, in work, in graduate programs. I believe it has come from the participation awards, popularity promotions, etc. working hard isn’t getting people ahead anymore, it’s getting them burnt out.
