High performers are leaving every aspect of US society. This is happening all over - it’s a societal problem - this is happening in kids sports, in work, in graduate programs. I believe it has come from the participation awards, popularity promotions, etc. working hard isn’t getting people ahead anymore, it’s getting them burnt out.
