*she was provided sticks and other natural nesting options, but she refused. she chose organic q tips and mini zipties. believe me, I rather her not have a nest full of plastic. if anyone has a recommendation for something that is similar in size and shape that is natural, please let me know so I can try for next time!

It's actually true that modern pigeons who are raised in a well-built established nest will return as adults and ADD to the nest-what we see here is not necessarily true intentional sparce+material nesting! There is a prevailing theory that we're seeing what we see with birds such as Crows and many kinds of Eagles who are notoriously bad at starting a fresh nest-because they are meant to be born in long-term generational nests they are no longer hard-wired to START a nest but are 100% still wired to ADD to a nest. Much of the 'bad' nests we see would be a great fresh layer on an old nest if applied.
