@christinasciarrillo_phd: I usually try so hard to be so even tempered, calm, and non-confrontational because I don’t think it helps to be that way but I’m truly so tired of these comments because they are very misleading. Hope this helps to clear some things up. Nova image used was created by @Unbiased Science Podcast 🤝 #nutrition #evidencebased #dietitian #health #wellness
do you think that since the ultra processed foods are highly palatable and people over eat them and a lot of the issues could be in that?

How do we even know for sure that "ultra processed" food consistently leads to poor health outcomes if we can't agree on the definition of "ultra processed"? I don't think we can even make claims as general as that until the definitions are solved. Claims and research conclusions should be tied to specific foods and specific processing techniques. I honestly think the phrases "highly processed" or "ultra processed" should be off limits for dieticians and other nutrition advocates until there is a unified definition.

It's amazing dieticians and food scientists like you that are the cornerstone of my journey rebuilding my relationship with food, after a childhood of disordered eating. Thank you for all the hard work you do, debunking myths, helping people, and offering snippets of education! 💚

I mean, yeah, where do we draw the line in a way that's not, at least somewhat, arbitrary? You can argue that farming itself is a form of processing.

so you are using undefined terms to explain undefined foods.

How do you feel about that one app that tells you what foods are good or bad? I think it’s the yuka app if I’m not mistaken

When I hear the word "processed" I automatically think about ultra processed foods with preservatives, dyes, high heat processed oils and other vague or carcinogenic ingredients. Like unnatural chemical additives designed to prolong shelf life or improve some aspect of palatability and I know that chemicals doesn't automatically equal "bad." I feel like there's so much we don't know but the best thing to do is make food at home and do the best you can

Each state in the US is about the size of a country or bigger. And there are so many chemicals added just for shipment purposes. I often wonder if each state had enough resources to feed its own population/towns with its fresh goods would we still have so many with chronic health conditions.

My qualms with the food industry start with labeling things organic. 100% of all of the food everywhere is organic. All of it. Somebody picked the wrong word.

You're arguing semantics at this point! You know the center of the grocery store does not promote or sustain optimal health.
