@roachofthewestt: Coral bleaching is primarily caused by heat stress. The first small-scale marine coral bleaching was recorded in 1929. The first mass bleaching was in 1982. The worst mass coral bleaching started in 2023 and has surpassed the devastating bleaching of 2014-2017. We have lost about 2/3 if the great barrier reef to mostly coral bleaching, and most of it is not reversible. It’s mainly due to greenhouse gases we put into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide emissions mix into sea water and from there it actually dissolves the shells and skeletons of sea creatures and corals, after the reaction has occurred. Plus the greenhouse gases create a separate atmosphere which traps in heat causing hotter summers and winters which literally bakes the coral reef. I want to help and I am currently studying to be a marine biologist.

Ive seen a lot of people who previously didn’t believe it was real switch to now saying that its just natural and doesn’t actually matter. 99% of the time these people bring up the lack of weather data we have for centuries, but yknow, they dont have brains and cant think of alllll the others things we do have centuries of data and that can show us exactly that climate change is a problem and this extent of change so quickly is definitely not good for our planet and our survival.
