Not exactly the same situation, but when I worked at Rickel Home Center as a stockroom supervisor, there was a man in my department who was deaf and mute. In addition to that, he had grown up in Afghanistan and never learned to read or write English, and the sign language they learn there is very different from the sign language in America. So nobody in our store had any way to actually speak with him. But I must say, we found ways to communicate with eachother, and we became friends and sorta made up our own sign language along the way. I used to say jokingly (but actually not so jokingly) that I have better conversations with him than I have with most people I know.

As a mum of two autistic boys, one being non verbal like Lola. Selfishly I would love to hear him say... I love you or Mummy. ❤️Practically I would love him to be able to ask for help. I hope your journey is successful, I wish you all the luck in the world. x
