my artist charges hourly. but he also charges a deposit that pays for the first hour. no matter what he's getting paid something. after you show up he starts his time when tattooing actively

I charge hourly as a tattoo artist and when someone is late with no heads up, then they are charged from their original start time, if I get a heads up, and I feel I was being respected (far more often than not) the appointment starts when you get here. if I get no showed I charge upfront for the entire tattoo as well as a new deposit to rebook.

I have the opposite problem, my artist is always late and still charges for the full day even though we always finish at 5:30pm. It’s frustrating and I love her work but it does feel like I’m being ripped off when I still pay for the hour she is late and I’m being tattooed 1 hour less. 🙊

as the customer, absolutely charge me for your wasted time if for some reason I am late or a no show. that is beyond inconsiderate. if they reach out and had some sort of emergency (they are in the hospital, had a car accident, etc) I think it would be kind and appropriate to maybe charge a flat fee instead of by hour .. but either way your time deserves respect.

If they are stuck in traffic or something similar and call ahead to let you know they'll be late, id give 15 minutes grace before starting the charges. No call or later than that the pay clocks starts ticking. Your time isn't free and is as valuable as theirs

Well my psychologist still gets the same money when I'm late and we still finish at the agreed time not whatever minutes later that i arrived I'd use the same principle

Im a massage therapist and their time is pre booked. I'll finish when their appointment is finished. So if their 15 minutes late that's their time wasted. Not mine. xx

Not a tattoo artist but I think a small couple minutes is ok but anything over like 10ish minutes yea charge that fee, your time isn’t free for appointments

I think it depends…if u have the design already drawn then when the appointment was scheduled to start….if u still have to draw it then when they show up

I personally charge for only the hours spent tattooing- but if someone is 30+ minutes late without any prior notice, the appointment is cancelled and deposit is forfeited. We can always reschedule, but our time is valuable as well.

Start of the agreed appointment. It’s my time that I block for them but you should communicate that beforehand. It’s amazing how they start to value your time more when they know that they pay for it ;)

I am not a tattoo artist, I am an engineer and I support my clients on-site. I start to charge my hourly rate from the moment I begin to leave for the client's location. Because my time is valuable and sometimes I have to travel to the client. If I need three hours to go to a client, fix the issue in 5 minutes and then I need two hours to return home, should I change for 5 hours or one? Same for you, your time is valuable, the only thing that will prevent you from making more money, on your current business model, is time.

i currently don’t charge till they get there however i am thinking of honestly keeping deposit and making them pay full total if later than 30 mins bc our time is valuable and we have bills to pay too, we’re a luxury service x

i don’t charge by the hour (anymore), now i just have a 15min grace period. any longer with no prior communication and you’re appointment will be rescheduled, i have clients scheduled afterwards that i won’t push back because someone else was running 30min+ behind, it’s not fair to them:)

Future tattoo artist here, personally if they communicated with me that they would be late I wouldn’t charge extra unless it was past a certain amount of time and then it’s just a cancelation fee atp but they’re showing up 20-30 minutes late no warning they’re gonna have to pay for that time as well

If you have an appointment and it’s hourly, you are being charged for the artists TIME. Any time spent waiting on a client is still time spent on that appointment.
