think of type 1 and type 2 as umbrella terms for a multitude of conditions. type 1 is insulin dependent. you need it to stay alive, through pumps or multiple daily injections. type 2 is usually associated with insulin resistance. sometimes they need insulin, sometimes other options work. both have all kinds of causes like autoimmune, damage to pancreas, genetics...LADA, MODY, gestational to name a few.

Type 1 is genetic, can’t prevent it, you just loose the ability to produce insulin. Type 2 is mostly due to lifestyle choices OR just your body becomes insulin resistant. Some cases of Type 2 you can prevent, unlike type 1
