My dad is a retired journeyman mechanic and he never did any of this. Only thing my dad taught me was to oil the filter gasket before installing.

I have never punched a hole in an old filter, but have ALWAYS primed the filter. Even if the filter is sideways or upside down you soak the element but don't fill it.

lube new rubber gasket with clean oil and check to confrim old rubber gasket from old filter is not stuck on block. save engine failure duu to high rbm doubble gsket leak/ loss of oil

If you start that car with no oil, you shouldn’t be doing any maintenance on your own! Put oil in the engine after you put the new filter on! Common sense

You can also loosen the filter and just get an over size plastic cup and put it over the filter and unscrew it and the oil spills into the cup

I cant tell you how many oil changes I've done in my life. It is not necessary to poke a hole in a filter hanging down. I've nevwr spilled oil all iver the engine. Yes I could prime the filter, but it fills in a second when you start the engine. I never lost engine. It is VERY important though to put fresh oil on the rubber bf installing the new one. Never listen to anyone on TikTok.

You forgot to say smear a little bit of the new oil around the o-ring too. So it doesn't distort the gasket.
