Leonard Shaner :
The locomotive was built-in Schenectady, New York, which is on the East Coast at den, went out to West Coast. So it was actually built here in the east in nineteen forty one , and then went back out into the western states to operate. It is not, however, it is not the largest locomotive ever built. There were engines far bigger than this engine built, there were 2 1202's, and there were larger ones. There were 12, there were 2-12-12-2's, big engines, much largers, but this is one of the heaviest ones ever built. But union pacific is known for being a big railroad. So in 1941, when this thing was being put together, there was a boss at 1 of the shops and said, and scratched it on the tender on the smokebox cover of the locomotive, which is the front of the engine. Big boy , because it was a "big boy" , not that's how got's name
