@drtoddphillips: I preached Adam and Eve, the fall, original sin, and the need for Jesus for more than 20 years. But when I finally heard the story without protecting the doctrine, it sounded very different. Two people without the knowledge of good and evil eat from the tree that gives them moral knowledge after a talking serpent deceives them while Adam stands there. Then later Christianity turns that story into the foundation for original sin, human brokenness, death, and the need for Jesus. That may be sacred theology from the inside. I don’t punish my grandkids for something my children did … just saying… according to the bible I’m evil but god is good and he knows how to give good gifts … I’m evil and would never punish my grandchildren for something my children did … so why would god (who is good) punish people thousands of years later? … this makes it so easy to walk away
