Because the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci was the first to introduce the concept of light, shade, shadows and perspective to create more realistic paintings... other artists learned from him and perfected the technique. Non of those other paintings would exist without the advances that Leonardo contributed to the art world.

praising monet but putting down da vinci does not make you a greater admirer of art, you're not edgy, you're just biased towards impressionism. the mona lisa was a marvel of renaissance art, with details unimaginable at the time. it's one of the most influental paintings in human history
