I’m a mental health therapist with a perinatal focus and I see a lot of parents who have lost infants or pregnancies. One of the most common struggles is the lack of acknowledgment of children who passed early in life. The “how many children do you have?” feels like a gut punch. I’m mother to a twin who’s other half was stillborn but to the rest of the world, I have an only child constantly being asked when I will give him a sibling. This video is great for helping others with that acknowledgment or validation ❤️

I am so sorry for you and your family's loss. We lost my sister a few years ago just before her 26th birthday and seeing the damage it's done to my poor Mom breaks my heart all over again. May his memory always be a blessing to you. 💜🫂

If someone said to me: “I am a bereft parent” would it be safe to assume they mean they have a child who died? I have only heard bereft in the context of emotions but not once have I considered that it could mean it another way. You’re so right that we need a word for this!

I wonder if we don't have a word in English because historically, infant and childhood mortality was so high, it was just assumed most parents had lost a child? I'm thankful we've gotten to a point where this isn't the case, but devastated for people like you who could benefit from having a specific word to describe this kind of loss❤️
