when i watched the movie for the second time, how i interpreted the backwards walk was that Wish Nikki could now anticipate Real Nikki’s return in that point in the movie, so when when Wish nikki could feel Real nikki about to break through she walked back so that real nikki wouldn’t be close enough to bear to do something to him, i think that because right after she walks back she almost runs at him before stopping immediately

I don't think Nikki was possessed, but due to the nature of Bear's wish, she might as well be. I think what trips people up is the scene where she speaks to Bear while sleeping, but I don't necessarily think that proves possession. Nikki says "she" is sleeping, but I think that just means Wish Nikki only controls parts of her brain, maybe the most important parts, but still not enough to completely shut out Nikki's actual personality.

i recommend reading the screenplay to give you a deeper insight to Barkers intentions behind each character, it’s a really good script!! what nikki actually says while walking backwards is chilling and the original writing of the sex scene is SO disturbing.
