@tic_tac_mangaeu: WHICH JAPANESE RULES CAN YOU ACTUALLY IGNORE? 🇯🇵 Are you absolutely terrified of breaking our strict cultural rules when visiting Japan? Instead of stressing over every single detail, let us explore exactly which rules you can respectfully bend and which ones you must fiercely protect together, side by side! First, let us look at the softer guidelines. You have probably heard that eating or drinking on the streets, or casually chatting with a friend on the train, are completely forbidden. While locals definitely prefer you avoid these actions, they are actually just soft rules you can sometimes respectfully ignore without causing a massive scene. However, there are absolute strict boundaries you cannot ignore under any circumstances! First, absolutely never talk on your phone while riding the train. It deeply disturbs the shared public peace. Second, never go straight into an onsen bath before performing kakeyu, which is thoroughly rinsing your entire body first. This is a massive sign of respect for the shared water and our local traditions. Which of these cultural rules completely surprised you? Let me know down in the comments below, and let us continue to discover the true Japan together! 👇 #japan #japanculture #tokyo #japantravel #discoverjapan

Very informative videos. They make me want to visit Japan more and more. My parents went to Japan while my brother in law was stationed there. I wanted to go, but couldn't leave the country at the time because of other issues and because I don't like flying at all.

Ok so you have said you can walk and eat. But can you sit and eat? Me and my husband tried to eat on a public bench and got alot of strange looks.

I've found the talking on trains things is more of a read the room situation. If it's a train packed with commuters who are all silent then do the same but an evening train from Shinjuku to Shibuya will be louder than most trains in the US.

I think the “don’t eat and drink” rule came from the fact of a lack of trashcans anywhere outside 😭
