At first, you want to hold onto everything, because its feels like the last tie. I promise it gets better and you will be able too. Give it time

When my mom died and my dad sold the house. We donated their items to a place that helps special needs adults. They sell items and they work at the location by dusting, and sorting and carrying boxes. It felt so good to know their things would be taken care of and people would not be ripped off .

Have a memorial garage sale then take the money and make a memorial garden in her memory, perhaps plant all her favorite plants and maybe use a few of her garden decorations 🥰🥰 I sympathize, I went through this when I lost my husband 3 years ago ❤️❤️❤️

It’s very hard to get rid of their things. When my Mom first passed away I wanted to keep everything. It will be 9 years this Sept 11 that she passed and there are things that I still can’t get rid of. My Dad was the same and he’s been gone 7 years. I lost my only sibling last August and his things are still here. Thinking of you ❤️🙏

so sorry for your loss! i had to do this for most of my family members that passed. it was so hard to keep grieving their losses, so, one day, I said to my family what would you like and the rest got donated, I let go that day of grief.

I moved into my Grandparents house. I refuse to change certain things as they were her last design concepts of what she wanted. Like 27 feet of olive green w/ gold antiqued kitchen cabinets! She died in 1981.

Same. Wanted but couldn't keep it all.
my siblings and i learned that the "things" are just things. Getting rid of the "things" doesn't equal getting rid of Mom or the memory of the thing.
maybe take a photo of these type of things, get the photos printed and write on the back of photo where the item always was in Moms house, or a memory about it, or a story about it.

It’s so difficult! It’s the memories attached to those things. I went through this almost 3 years ago. I can honestly say that I do not miss one single thing that I didn’t bring with me. It just takes time. Give yourself some grace.
