You're so right about that academia gets way more interesting when you start making it personal. I feel it since like the halfway of my journey at uni that I started build my uni space more personal bcs I want to preserve everything that makes me find myself more (I use Notion for this). Also from that point, I find that reading academic papers is just not as boring as I thought before if we put our personal value on it. Tysm for sharing this<3

Wait I did this tooo! I graduated in 2019 from Columbia and I still have the boxes with all my favorite things from all my lectures stored in my parents’ weekend home haha like a time capsule

I earned my undergrad and first masters from Evergreen State College. We didn’t earn grades, instead, we created our work portfolios and dropped them in a box outside our professors door and we received a narrative evaluation. I missed this when I moved on for my second masters at Northeastern. I saved all of my portfolios including sketchbooks.

I’ve never thrown anything away from college. I’m so glad I still have it. I only threw away stuff from ONE class is it was the class that I ended up teaching. 😭😭😭

When I was in college, I gathered all my printed lectures and consolidated them in one large binder. I still have them! Looking back more than a decade later, I was grateful to my older self for doing it.
