@naderaccountancy: Everyone’s reacting to the Miami entertainer who says she made $710k in 2024, paid herself $200k as “reasonable compensation” from her S‑corp, and claimed $148k in write‑offs as a dancer. From a tax perspective, the structure itself isn’t the wild part. An S‑corp for a high‑earning entertainer is totally normal, reporting 1099 income plus additional self‑reported cash is exactly how it’s supposed to work, and having legitimate business expenses is expected. Where things get interesting is what she’s calling a “write‑off” and how low that salary looks when basically all the revenue is her personal services. Most people don’t realize that things like regular hair, nails, lashes, and everyday glam are almost never deductible, even if your entire brand is your appearance and you’re on stage or on camera for a living. Courts have denied those types of grooming expenses over and over as inherently personal, regardless of how “necessary” they feel for the job. On top of that, when a one‑person S‑corp is generating hundreds of thousands of dollars purely from the owner’s labor, setting a relatively low wage and taking the rest as distribution is exactly the pattern the IRS pays attention to when they talk about “reasonable compensation.” If you’re an entertainer, creator, or service‑based business owner watching this and using this video as your tax blueprint, be careful. The difference between a smart structure and an audit magnet usually isn’t the entity; it’s how aggressive you get on grooming and lifestyle deductions, and how defensible your “reasonable salary” really is when someone asks you to prove it. #tax #finance #business #TaxTok #TaxTips #CPA #writeoff

Why do public corporations allow ceos to take a $1 salary but a S corporation ceo cannot?

So in the end she paid 27ish% tax on her taxable income. Did being the sole proprietor of an S-corp really benefit her?

I agree the reasonable comp is too low. I’m tired of these “tax strategist” constantly having scenarios where the business makes $150,000 and they’re gonna pay themselves $60,000 in reasonable compensation. These are unrealistic scenarios.

The tax write-offs are suspicious because it's mostly one thing that can be tied to it with the limited amount of information we get from the video and the salary is also low for how much she has made. How are they proven to be wrong or werid or law breaking or something?

With that amount of money she can open a defined pension plan in an S-Corp and defer hundreds of thousands of dollars

Couldn’t the hair and makeup be a potential write up if the company requires it but don’t pay for it

Courts have ruled that reasonable salary only needs to equal the median salary for the profession in your state (even for solo operators). Of course there’s some grey area but odds of that being challenged are super low

If looked at probably wouldn’t get a lot of push back on the salary since it’s above the social security limit. Only saving on some Medicare. May want to rethink it though since at her income she is limiting her qbi deduction. As a sstb corp the limitation can be increased by wages.

meh once you pass the social security cap, I'm not normally too worried about the salary. everyone has different opinions on what a reasonable salary is, $200k is a defendable position I'd say.
