When my father came here they wouldn’t allow my grandfather bc they accused him of being a “socialist”. They also wouldn’t allow my grandmother and her children to come unless they proved they wouldn’t be on government assistance. Today it seems like those a prerequisites to come here. So yeah, your parents aren’t completely wrong.
