France protests update: Student protests across France against overloaded timetables, severe teaching staff shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and inadequate facilities during extreme heat have escalated into widespread "urban violence." Demonstrations, road blockades, and riots have been reported at nearly 900 locations nationwide, with entrances to over 30 university campuses—including those in Paris and Marseille—also blocked. The situation has become critical due to violent clashes and arson; a school in Nantes sustained severe damage after being set on fire, forcing its closure for a month, while attempts were made to set fire to two schools in Marseille, where petrol was also thrown at a teacher. Riot police have been deployed in large numbers to disperse the crowds. Amid tear gas shelling by police and stone-pelting by demonstrators, over 300 police officers, dozens of firefighters, several teachers, and numerous students have been injured. Approximately 3,000 students aged 15 to 18 have been detained since the protests began. As the crisis deepened, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu convened an emergency cabinet meeting, directing all ministers to cancel their travel plans to focus on restoring order. While the French government has blamed the left-wing opposition for inciting the riots, opposition leaders have strongly condemned the police's alleged use of excessive force against student protesters. #France #Paris #foryoupage #fyp #Foryou
