When rescuers found him, he was covered in ticks and suffering from a devastating injury. One of his legs had been so badly crushed that there was no possibility of saving it. The heartbreaking part is how it may have happened. Based on the nature of the fracture, veterinarians believe Sidi may have been sleeping beneath a parked car, seeking shade or safety the way so many homeless dogs do. Then, without anyone realizing he was there, the vehicle moved. The tire appears to have rolled directly over his leg. In an instant, everything changed. Alone and injured, Sidi was left trying to survive with a shattered limb while also battling Ehrlichia. This serious tick-borne disease can weaken the body, cause anemia, and make recovery even more difficult. Despite everything he has endured, Sidi has remained incredibly sweet. Unfortunately, veterinarians confirmed what rescuers feared. The damage to his leg was too severe. The only way to end his suffering and give him a chance at a comfortable future is through amputation. For many dogs, losing a leg sounds tragic. But for Sidi, this surgery is freedom from pain. It is the chance to heal. Right now, Sidi needs surgery, medications, treatment for Ehrlichia, hospitalization, and weeks of recovery care.
