Back in the day the employer would set their apprentices up with all the basic tools required for the trade, it wasn’t for free the employer would deduct a small amount each week from apprentice wages to pay back the cost of tools, an the employer would always provide all the consumables like blades, bits, discs etc, when my some started his apprenticeship he basically had to buy all the gear required which is quite expensive for a young bloke staring out.

my first year as a pipefitter apprentice i got stupid lucky and was able to buy whole gang box of fitter tools from a journeyman that just retired. got like an insane amount of tools for such an amazing price. when he found out I was an apprentice he literally dropped the price by 75%. he helped me so much
