Single dad here. My boy is my world. When his mum and I separated 8 years ago, I made a promise to him that I first made the day he was born 13 years ago… that I would always be there for him and never leave his side. After spending more than £45,000 on solicitor fees, I was fortunate enough to be awarded custody 8 years ago. Since then, I’ve continued to drive 1,200 miles every month so he can spend time with his mum at weekends. Even though half of the time he doesn’t want to go especially now that he is getting older. I live for my boy and I’ll make sure that he has the best life

My sons in Uni in London, he’s friends with very wealthy international students and he recently told me he’d told them that he wouldn’t change his childhood, that it was the simple things he looks back on with a smile and love. Maaaan that made my heart full❤️

Every night after getting my youngest to sleep I go into my 7yr olds room for a chat before he goes to sleep, we laugh and talk about his day and I said I’m gonna miss the day you kick me out your room😂 he replied saying he’ll never kick me out but I just smiled and took it all in because he 100% will one day🤣

This is so beautifully put. I was so uncertain about ending my marriage because of the impact it might have on my son. I was moving out but gave him the option that whilst I felt he'd be best to move with me he could stay with his Dad in what was our home. He told me, "You are home mum, nowhere will ever be home if you aren't there" 🥺 He was 14 & that meant so much, when he went to Uni he asked if I'd o & sort his room with him because I will create a home for him in that room. When we talk about his childhood he says he remembers it being fun but difficult, he realised we didn't have much money & things were always on me. I didn't know he saw things but I'm pleased he also had fun. He remembers the fun being me. He's an adult & he walks in to our home, gives me a cuddle & then usually roasts me. I know I made mistakes but I think ultimately I created good, & part of the most good was doing the thing I was most worried about, ending my marriage. I didn't break a home up, I created a happy home
