@bupa: ✍️ You don’t need to be an artist to benefit from being creative. There are lots of studies on the upsides of art, but you don’t need an easel or a set of acrylics to feel the impact of creativity on your mental health. Recent studies suggest that doodling can support cognitive and emotional wellbeing by acting a little bit like mindfulness - giving you a structured way to relieve stress and improve focus. Doodling can help to maintain alertness during boring tasks, and even help you retain information - keeping the brain lightly engaged and discouraging ‘full’ daydreaming. In one study published in the journal ‘The Arts in Psychotherapy’, participants who were encouraged to doodle reported improvements in their self-perceptions of problem solving and having good ideas. Best of all, there’s no ‘right’ way to doodle - just grab a pen or pencil, put it to paper, and let it wander where it wants.
