This is the distance when the started indicating. highway code 223 states you should give priority to busses when it is safe to do so. that massive distance you have is definitely a safe distance to give them priority.

Bus driver here. He had been indicating well before you reached him, so you had plenty of time to ease off and let him pull out. Instead, you chose to try and be competitive. In this situation, you’re in the wrong. Just because a bus is slower than your car doesn’t mean you always have the right to be in front. Bus drivers aren’t trying to hold people up deliberately, we’re simply doing our job and earning a living to support our families. Driving a bus is far more demanding than many people realise. The next bus stop is often only a few hundred yards away, so if you need to overtake, wait until it’s safe and appropriate to do so. It’s not as though you’ll be stuck behind the bus for the rest of your journey.
