I understand about 98% of spoken English in movies, TV shows, TikToks, and pretty much everywhere else, but I DON’T speak it very well 😅 I tend to translate everything directly from my native language in my head, and it just doesn’t work. Also, my spoken vocabulary is pretty limited.

whatnot :
my problem is that I can understand what I listen to and read quite well, but when I need to use the words I clearly know the meaning I'm somehow forgetting them. I know the meaning of at least 5000 basic English words, but when I need to translate words from my native language to these in english I cannot remember

I understand: it isn’t necessary to use the c2 level or a much more advanced level of English in a natural environment such with peers, friends, or family because natural English is much more reliable. For example in such instances as telling a story or speaking a basic phrase, however it is appropriate to use c2 level or advanced English in work settings to better indicate or emphasize what you are aiming for whether it is goals or objectives in accordance to wherever you work.

Having reached a C1+ level this year that occasionally leans towards C2, I see the ups and downs of both natural and academic spoken English! Although slang and colloquial speech does have its benefits that are irrefutable, speaking at an advanced level elevates the manner in which people are able to express themselves! For example, instead of curating long explanations that are often superfluous, English does encompass words that carry the weight of entire sentences! For instance, "Donald Trump tends to lie about everything, telling people all the things they wanna hear, and that's so shameful! Now, compare it to a more sophisticated version like, " Donald Trump's deceitful demeanor is utterly despicable!! Same narrative, but cut short! Another example,"Last week, some friends and I went hiking in the mountains, where we saw a bear walking around with its cubs! This encounter was so mesmerizing that words are not enough to explain how we all felt at that moment! In short," While hiking in the mountains with my friends last week, we encountered a bear walking around with its cubs, which was an ineffable experience!!!

I think the biggest hurdle is not worrying too much about potential mistakes. I am sure my English isn't 100% perfect, but I know that everyone understands what I want to say. So mission completed.
