I think it is very important to teach your children modesty, especially in this image saturated world. I have never seen my parents unclothed and I very much appreciate this! His wife can feel confident all she wants and have good self-esteem, but i dont think it's appropriate to be topless in front of the daughter now that she is getting to an age of understanding. You will appreciate her not feeling that comfortable being top less especially later down the road in her teen years. I go braless often at home, but cover the girls

If she does this she also needs to be explaining appropriate vs inappropriate situations for when it comes to nudity and who you should/should not be undressed around. Speaking from first hand experience, I was not given that talk and as a result I did not know what some adults were doing with/around me was inappropriate. Sometimes I feel like I was unintentionally set up to fail.

I've seen my mother naked for most of my life. I think the difference is having the mother teach the daughter modesty. I don't run around naked in public, but I'm not ashamed to feel free in my own home and who I am. I think it created a more body positive environment and caused me to worry less about what other people thought of me.

My mom did this my entire life and no one ever had a problem with it and it never affected me or my siblings. If anything it made me more comfortable with the human body. And I tend to dress quite modestly

I think dads think about it differently than moms and it’s not necessarily s3xual. I have a son about the same age and when I am in the shower and he walks in for whatever reason I cover up and my wife always acts like that’s weird. If I had a daughter, I would do the same thing. I think that to dads it’s an innocence thing more so than putting the child in a vulgar situation. I taught my son how to use the potty so it’s not like he hasn’t seen things before but does he need to see it on a random Thursday? I didn’t appreciate catching glimpses when my dad or grandad left the bathroom door open

Fellow lawyer here, who agrees with you. As part of a profession where words matter, I urge you to not give in to the current rage to complicate words that don’t need it. Comfort and discomfort are words that exist already, no need to add “-ability” to the end of either.

4 yr olds go to school and tell the teacher and other children everything. My Granddaughter is 4. One classmate went to a wedding and wanting to have the class play wedding and told the girls and boys they need to kiss. The teacher shut them down but kids do and say everything. The child may decide she needs to take her shirt off wherever she is.

Food for thought. I had a kindergarten student who had a mom who did this very thing at home. Unfortunately, the at home choices of her mom, did not also come with an explanation of boundaries. This meant my female student would often take off her shirt in class and on the playground. My only suggestion is for mom and dad to at least casually explain - in a developmentally appropriate way - that going topless is an at-home activity, in the privacy of your own home. Just as one would talk to their child about appropriate “bathing suit area” and physical touch boundaries with non-mom/dad adults,

A very interesting topic. Would it be ok if he wanted to be naked around his daughter? Nudist are ok with that it seems but I’m not completely familiar with their thoughts on the matter I used to shower with my girls when they were babies. My wife would hand one to me and it’d be a quick way to bath them. But that was over when they could walk..And same sex nudity seems more acceptable? It’s how you were raised? If the little girl is uncomfortable that would add to the issue… I don’t think it’s black and white.

When I was 4 (I am female), my older brother, who was 15, often had his friends over. They were usually topless in the summer. I felt like being one of the boys and took my top off, too. They had a pretty good laugh.
