all ikea furniture that is imported from asia is made from : mild steel, mdf/pb/honeycomb + paper/melamine/veneer . Maybe few are made from real solid wood - chairs/tables or very expensive chests and beds

as someone who worked in the ikea factory: it depends. some products are made of cardboard, some are made of plywood, but the ones that need to be sturdy are made of pine wood. ikea is based on the idea of being simple, affordable and easy to build yourself. don't worry, the items that need to carry weight are usually not made out of cardboard
