He believed you can't be a good lawyer without understanding what "demonstrate" really means. He worked through all six books until he could recite any proposition on sight. Einstein called his own copy "the holy little geometry book." Newton, Galileo, and Spinoza all said it changed how they thought. But what Euclid trains isn't geometry. It's one distinction most people never learn: the difference between a claim that sounds right and one that's actually been proven, step by step. Lincoln could tell them apart. The first six books of the Elements of Euclid are downloadable from the Gutenberg's Project. Are those the books you're referring to? There seems to be a total of 13 bucks. I'm struggling to understand how a lawyer can utilize a geometry book to build strong logic skills.

Fun fact. His stepmother is the reason he could read and that he had that and many other books that defined classical learning. Yet another woman left out of the story. Had his father not met her, there wouldn’t have been a Lincoln.
