Wuthering Heights is my favorite classic. Yes the movie did irreparable damage to the way people react when I say that why do you ask

no fr I don’t know why people assume an author is in support of their character because that would be us consuming media devoid of evil which is there in relaotu

The way people were cheering del Toro's Frankenstein as if he didn't take all nuance and morality greyness out of the story.

Me when someone says a novel is not a romance just because it’s also gothic. Like… that’s the point. It’s a GOTHIC romance. It’s not a run of the mill fairytale Jane Austen story.

HELL YEAH! As an author, I'm starting to feel like when I release my books people will cancel me, because my characters aren't "good" people.. I mean😭
Perfect characters are boring and unrealistic

how it's portrayed, put into context, and what genre the author is leaning towards is so important. there's a different between writing out self indulgent fantasies and writing out horror/tragedies

only point I want to add is that criticism of a character and/or just saying you don't like them isn't saying they shouldn't be written like that. i've on multiple occasions had to clarify that while I hate a character, that doesn't mean I think an author should change them.

If every single character in a piece of media was moraly good, there'd be no conflict to start the story, no plot following it, no development, nothing to solve, no message to express, NOTHING!! Like genuinely nothing, it'd be 100-300 (for a standard book) pages or an hour and half of the characters going "heyy how are you :)" "good, thanks :)" and going to work. People need to realize that 1) moraly bad characters are necessary, and 2) they have to look at how the author portrays them and their actions
