@coastalcurr3nts: We’re now getting a look at the scorched aftermath aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford after the fire in March that left roughly 600 sailors without beds, according to video obtained by CNN. Virginia U.S. Senator Mark Warner spoke with reporters on Monday at a roundtable discussion in Norfolk, home city of the world’s largest aircraft carrier. “I’m trying to get a full readout not just on the fire damage but also the level of the plumbing issues," Warner said. "There’s got to be lessons learned here.” The USS Gerald R. Ford broke the U.S. record for the longest post-Vietnam War deployment for an aircraft carrier, a nearly 11-month span that saw it take part in both the military raid in Venezuela and the Iran war. I’m my 20 years in the Navy, if that would have happened during a deployment we would have had a whole new command structure before we got back to home port.

We used to have drills about fires often when I was in the Navy- physical preparedness… everyone had a job to do to contain and extinguish it. I never recall a fire suppression system beside water tight/fire retard doors and maybe sprinklers but we were trained hands on.

And they still did a year long deployment ... Super proud of my Shipmates, they regrouped and accomplished the mission as it was handed to them ... Truly set the standards, moving forward . NavLife 💙 🫡 ...

Seems like a big failure in damage control more than any system. I guess part of it could be the move to more automation and smaller crews.
