i was so lucky to read this book when i did. the perfect read for senior year. ive never had a book affect me like this one has.because just like holden at the time i too am going into adulthood. The scary part? It comes wether you want it to or not. For this book you go into it expecting for it to pick up and go somwhere but it...doesnt. theres zero plot yet i was utterly consumed by the world of holdens mind. "hes annoying", "he complains", "its a wierd book with no plot." and your right. but your proving your own point. its not for you. its for the holden caulfields in the world. he complains and complains and tries to understand the world and sex and growing up because hes simply a boy scared to grow up and be an adult becsuse every adult hes met has been manipulative. so he goes and tries to find connection only to be sexually assulted proving to himself that adulthood is wrong. that all he wants to be is on the edge of adulthood and childhood. to protect the children mostly his sister pheobe from the monsters he couldnt protect himself from. he simply wants to be the holder in the rye but he himself has to learn thst sometimes bad things happen to children no matter how protected they are. Sometimes they will fall off the edge. Like holden himself did. im so happy this book had never been made into a movie. the author wouldve been pissed. such a beautiful book thats either for you or not and for most people its not. like i said; its not about the plot. its like he says "the movies, its always about the godamn movies." there is no plot because its about purpose.
