Tomo :
Won’t the wife have to pay market going rent on the property to which the children then have to pay income tax on?

Bez™ :
But if the kids already own the home they live in they now own two houses, and stamp duty shoots up.

but if house is valued at 1.5 million then does the wife need to stay alive for 7 years to avoid paying anything on the extra 500k?

Karnage :
If she gifts the property, they pay no tax at all, right? It’s not even inherited. Provided she lives seven years from that point?

Hi :
There is more to this to be considered, is it the matrimonial home? If so, a GROB is the wife still lives in it unless she pays the kids market rent. 7 year rules around gifting still applies. If kids divorce or made bankrupt, that property wife still lives in could be used to satisfy the divorce or bankruptcy and is a security risk to the wife in that respect.
