Don’t lol. While it’s a very fun career path, it’s an oversaturated field rn with a massive chunk of older Gen Z having graduated in those fields. there isn’t enough demand in the market to supply enough jobs in an already horrible job market. I’d recommend saving yourself the headache from being unemployed after graduation

As a marketing manager, don’t do it!!! The field is super oversaturated and we are underpaid, overworked, and always blamed for everything. Please pick literally anything else if you value your mental well being lol

Networking is the only real way to get jobs in this field; join the student clubs, get close with professors, use linkedin like a madman. Pick any niches you’re interested in - B2B, social, event planning, BUT also be prepared to be expected to be a jack of all trades who can do a little of everything. Every industry needs PR and marketing, but going for specific ones like construction, B2B, government can help you network and find opportunities faster. Keep in mind there is SO much you can add to a resume too. Tabled for a student club? Marketing. Ran your own TikTok? Social media. Handed out flyers? Print advertising.

network and hustle girl. got my first job 8 months after grad even though i had big name internships. applying to 100 jobs a week is not enough, u need to set up coffee chats and get referred in. take any experience. study hard for interviews. be professional. but once ur in, ur in! and the work can be super fun and cool!

Have a focus in creative media, film, and or creative writing. Being analytical is a skill but being creative is a need especially in this field. I didn’t go to school for marketing I went for film and minored in creative writing and now I’m a marketing brand manager.

Find a unique niche and stay in! Mine is recruitment marketing with a speciality in hiring early carer talent. This has led to me giving a TEDx talk, keynote for the American marketing association, and brought me to the Cannes Lions festival last week in Cannes, France

as a PR girlie who currently works for disney and previously did broadway publicity in NYC, the best advice I have is to focus your energy on small/boutique agencies that work with clients in whatever niche you’re passionate about as you’re beginning your career. I got all of my first internships by researching small agencies in my area that had a client roster I was genuinely interested in and cold emailing them my resume/portfolio without an actual job posting even on the table. you just have to be proactive and kind of scrappy and create opportunity for yourself, and don’t be afraid to start small. I still think my time in the boutique agency world was the most formative experience of my career and believe it’s a great place for anyone in this field to get their start

Do it!!! It’s the best thing I ever did. If you’re passionate about social media, events, and understanding how brands are so successful, then it’s for you. I made the switch my sophomore year, and now I’ve graduated and have a full time job doing social media and events. It’s so fun, and never boring

Networking is HUGE, so many roles are filled from people who know people, also build a portfolio with mock campaigns, many marketing roles want to SEE your work in your application now

As a marketing girl, I would not switch into that. Although it can be fun, it’s pretty hard to get a job and it’s underpaid. You have to know people to land a role. I wish I would’ve done something that I could completely work remote with because for some reason it’s been hard for me to find remote work in marketing

I did this in college and while it was fun, honestly I wouldn’t recommend going into that field right now. It’s super oversaturated, AI is taking many of the entry level jobs, and many of the positions that are available don’t pay very well. It’s honestly an over glamorized industry, most of the cool jobs don’t pay a livable wage and the other jobs are really just 9-5 office type jobs.

I graduated last year. Very hard to find a job right now. No one is hiring and I’ve gone with a recruiter because I don’t know what else to do. Everything feels like a dead end and I’m just trying to find something.

I switched into marketing after starting in a completely different field, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Marketing lets you be creative while also thinking strategically and solving real business problems. Don’t be afraid to start over—your previous experiences become your biggest advantage. Keep learning, stay curious, and opportunities will come.

Every single experience counts!! I learned so much working for different fields and that helped a lot when I got my internship at an agency. Social media is your best friend, start following agencies, people in the fields, journalists and don't be scared to reach out.
