genuinely makes me upset when people say that rowan didn’t love celena. like he’s seen every single part of aelin and didn’t balk didn’t shy away he walked with her through the darkness to whatever end. i love sam and sam loved celena but he unfortunately never got to truly know her, im sure he would have loved her no matter what but we don’t know how he would have reacted. rowan saw her at her utmost darkest place and still chose her. yea the beginning was rocky but aelin didn’t need to be coddled when they met, she needed the hard truths and rowan was the only one who truly made her face her past, sit with it, accept it, and move on. it’s because of rowan that she was able to become aelin again. there is no aelin without rowan.

Rowan is my favourite because he is represented what I actually think love in the real world should be. I do love these other stories but their dynamics always felt unrealistic or hard to not make tropey. When the weight of the world was on Aelin and they all looked to her, he was her rock. It was her only sanctuary and honestly he reminded me of Sam in how they began training together with hostility, only to literally become lovers without it being through touch and lust. I loved that it didn’t do the whole tense sexual trope and was founded on true companionship. And it just felt unspoken and natural.

I’m re reading currently and I tear up every time I hear Rowans inner monologue talking about how much he yearns for Aelin but wants to be respectful of their previous loves. And he has always trusted her and gets thrilled by her and her character is the biggest in TOG, he never tries to outshine her, just marvels at her.
