@oyasumisushi: The amount of tiny bumps I’ve seen cause a lane closure for 30 minutes because no one moves 😂 #car #cars #indiana #indianapolis #driving
At least in the area that I live in, it is illegal to move your car from the scene of an accident, (unless you are on the interstate highway), without first either recording, photographic evidence of the accident or receiving direction from first responders

It’s not just common sense, it’s the law! (At least, it is in Illinois. If the car is drivable, get it out of traffic.)

I've seen a few places that even have signs that say it's the law for small accidents to move off roadway.

Most non injury accidents are not reported by police, so documentation is the responsibility of the parties involved for their insurance companies. Taking pictures of the vehicles at point of impact helps determine who’s at fault.

I was on 74 tonight at 1 am and there was a cop car sitting, thankfully with his lights on, in the LEFT lane! and he was walking around with a flashlight. it was so dark and it's so hard to see exactly where the car is stopped so I got over and slowed way down but it freaked me out

personally i think a few pictures from different angles need to be taken, then cars can be moved.

Depends on state law, in some you’re not supposed to move until the cops get there. But also from a former insurance claim adjuster standpoint it can result in further damage your car to move it sometimes. Also you’re supposed to stay in your car if you don’t move it. It’s way more dangerous to be blocking traffic & standing outside the car.

we can't move it until we have a record for insurance claims. They look like they are taking particulars.

As a former paramedic this drove me nuts. It puts everyone in danger. The occupants as well as the first responders.

For insurance purposes, it's advisable to NOT move your car. Once you move it, whoever is at fault could easily lie and say it was the other person's fault, and there's no way to 100% prove otherwise. Insurance companies will tell you to never move until the cop tells you you can.

I use to live close to a dangerous intersection and whenever they’re was an accident I’d go help get cars out of the road. 9/10 times no one wants to move because “we’re waiting for police to take photos for insurance!” I’ve had dozens of conversations with people who don’t understand how police reports work or what they need to do in these situations. Most people genuinely don’t know, or are panicking and not thinking about anything but what just happened to them. Accident preparedness only goes so far when adrenaline is pumping and people are scared

I got tapped once on a yield to traffic right turn. As i approached, a pedestrian walked up and I stopped to let him cross. We were going maybe two mph when the person behind tapped me. I got out, didn’t see any immediate damage and asked them to turn into the adjoining lot. We moved immediately, maybe took two minutes longer than I would have waiting for traffic anyway. Easy and done with. Luckily there was almost no damage. Just some scratches from the plastic licence plate cover that later buffed out. I didn’t even bother exchanging information, it was also soon to be Christmas so I said it was my gift. To top it off, it was a new driver in her mother’s car. Gave her a spiel about making sure to look several cars ahead and always be prepared to stop. It’s really not that hard to just take a couple of pics and move asap if there’s more damage.
