@theleadershipgovernor: The world we build next cannot prioritize English as the primary language because English simply cannot hold the complexity of the depth of the human experience. In this video, I show some examples of words that have no English equivalents, why English even became the common tongue, and what the first step actually is in creating a world that prioritizes languages with the ability to appreciate the nuance of the human experience. If you want to know who you are at the deepest energetic level, check out my free app, The Art of Going Inward, at the link in my bio #communication #language #english #newearth #leadership
Ubuntu is pronounced U-buntu, the U in the beginning is like uvula, united.. and yes, truth. Another word is uvalo.. it loosely means anxiety but far from, uvalo is a bigger more resonant feeling of.. like time and presence physically trembling?.. wild.

My parents EXPECT this from us kids but didn’t teach us: 孝顺 (pronounced xiào shùn), the core Chinese virtue of filial piety, representing deep love, profound respect, obedience, and devoted care for one's parents and elders.

This also is why we need to embrace new words by new generations, this is how languages grow and mature so they have words for these things.

I understand your point and agree with you but English is not a “basic” language. 😂There is no such thing as a basic language at all. Also, there are plenty of words to describe what people were going through, we just didn’t know what they were because of the stigma.

This is all true except English is perfect for academic (mostly scientific) research partly due to its ability to describe processes and point to actors in that movement. Similar to the way Chinese is great for mathematics because theres arithmetic built into the grammar of numbers. Time, colors, emotions, etc etc - all those ebb and flow differently in different languages. There’s pros and cons to each! I suggest learning a multimodal language such as ASL!! This is where you see your minds capacity REALLY expand and coincidentally, natural language processing as a whole becomes more embodied when you bring it outside yourself. Like you can feel it and see it.

We also cannot use English because even within this country there are two English languages, the legal definition and the coloquial or common language definition. It’s why we don’t know the legal meaning of words in our courts because they are not the same. It’s similar to class division within language.

So... I don't like this video for a lot of reasons. But I'll just tackle one. "They were probably speaking the language of the gods". There is no need to put other languages on a pedestal. You use an example of a word in portuguese. Portuguese is also the language of colonizers! I understand your point about how language shapes our internal models of the world and that it is very fruitful for people to learn new languages. But overcompensating for British colonialism by putting others on a pedestal is cringe to say the least.

As a German linguist who wrote her masters thesis on American English, I was a little irritated in the beginning but woooow you’re right. German is the same btw, even worse. There are so many things I can just say in English bc there is no German equivalent with the same depth/connotation. HOWEVER, I think creating categories for everything (like a pick me for example) doesn’t help making the language more complex. Maybe we should rather add words that carry depth instead of generalizing people.
